The Evergreen State College Library

~ Library Departments ~

Acquisitions

The Acquisitions Department of the Library is responsible for ordering monographic and non-print material for the library collection. Gift material is also received in Acquisitions.

Administration

Information about study rooms, student employment opportunities, and the Friends of the Library.

Archives

Archives obtains and makes available for research those materials that tend to illustrate or describe the nature and activities of the students, faculty, staff, patrons and supporters of The Evergreen State College.

Cataloging

We are responsible for the maintenance of local and national databases, the cataloging of library materials and assigning Library of Congress subject headings and call numbers. Trust me, it's not quite as glamorous as it sounds.

Circulation

This department maintains and circulates the Main Collection. You will find information on library cards, general policies, and the Reserves Policy on this webpage.

Government Documents & Maps

Access hundreds of goverment databases through this site. Government Documents also houses tens of thousands government publications and the library's map collection.

Inter-Library Loan

Interlibrary Loan/Borrowing is a service that gives current Evergreen students, faculty and staff the ability to obtain materials that are not available in the TESC library collection. Books, copies of periodical articles, government documents and similar materials needed for research may be borrowed from other libraries. Alumni and community borrowers are not eligible for this service, and should request materials through their public library.

Periodicals

Periodicals provides the only visible information desk on the third floor of the library. Here you will find the library's physical collection of journals, in a variety of formats. There are copiers for both paper & microforms located in this department.

Processing

This is the library department that prepares new books, serials, audio, film, video, DVDs, games,cd-roms, government documents and software for circulation or use in the library. They add barcodes, spine labels, and security strips, make catalog records for new library materials, and make minor book repairs.

Rare Books

The rare book room is home to all sorts of books. In selecting and maintaining books for the room, we ask if the book is: handmade, small press (especially Northwest), a book whose scarcity is suggested by date of publication or by price guides, a collection of specialized research, or an example of a fine printing technique. The subject matter ranges from the catacombs of Mexico to a nineteenth century edition of Puss In Boots.
