Approval Plan

The library has a contract with Yankee Book Peddler (YBP), a book vendor, to supply our approval plan.  The librarians, along with the Head of Acquisitions, have developed a profile based on our collection development requirements.  YBP makes selections matching our profile to recently published books.  Weekly shipments are received from YBP throughout the year.  Librarians are then able to review the book in-hand and decide to add it to our collection or return it to the vendor.

Approval Plans were developed to get the material to the library and make it available to the library patrons soon after publication, often before they are reviewed in the journals.  They also have the benefit of saving time for selectors and the acquisitions staff.  Approval plans also help the library stretch it's budget by offering the books at a good discount.
