Resource
Selection CommitteeCollection development policies and decisions for the Evergreen State College Library are made by a committee called the Resource Selection Committee (RSC). The group which meets monthly consists of the Dean of the Library, the reference librarians and the heads of library departments. The Head of Acquisitions represents the Acquisitions Department on the RSC.
Besides developing general collection development policies, the RSC sets the budget allocations and reviews the purchase of any single item costing more than $250. Spending plans are also developed for grants, gifts or additional funds over the original allocation.
The Acquisitions Department has the responsibility of purchasing monographic material for the undergraduate and graduate programs, non-print material, and reference monographs. Serials and periodicals are acquired by the Periodicals Department.
Evergreenís library collection is built from selections made by librarians, faculty, staff and student patrons. Librarians and faculty help develop the collection by making selections from reviews, professional journals and publisher's catalogs. The library also uses an approval plan to help build the collection.
