Instructions for Graduates
There is no rehearsal for commencement at Evergreen. Review the information on this page to know what you need to do on graduation day.
You are required to have a check-in card in order to cross the stage to receive your diploma cover. Your name will be preprinted on the card. You will hand the check-in card to a reader who will use the card to announce your name as you cross the stage. If your name is difficult to pronounce, spell your name phonetically to assist the reader. The readers will only read your name, there is no time for extra messages.
Check-in Cards can be picked up at the Registration Check-In table outside the CAB, Monday, June 6th through Thursday, June 9th, 9 am to 4:30 pm. We will have extended hours on Wednesday, June 8th. On Wednesday evening, cards will be available for pick up in the Veterans Resource Center, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Check-in cards for Tacoma Campus and Graduate Program students will be available through their program. Please contact the Program Assistant Directors for more information.
On Friday, June 10th the check-in tables will be located in the courtyard behind the flag poles at the loop to Red Square beginning at 9 am AVOID the stress and the lines, pick up your check-in card EARLY!
The staging for the processional line-up will be in the court yard between the CAB and CRC buildings near the Bike shop. The processional will then travel up an incline on the bike pathway which comes out near the SEM II bridge. The bike path is uphill so if you have difficulty walking please contact Michele Elhardt or by calling (360) 867-6310. You should plan to be in the staging area (between the College Activities Building and the Costantino Recreation Center) by 12:30 pm on June 10th. Have your check-in card with you. Staff will be available to assist you with the line-up.
The order of the processional will be MES, MPA, MIT, Tacoma undergraduates, Tribal undergraduates followed by Olympia and Grays Harbor undergraduates (BA or BS or dual BA/BS).
As you process onto Red Square, you will move through a crowd, including faculty members. Please move through the crowd to your seats as quickly as possible. We will have approximately 1,000 graduates who will process and be seated before the ceremony begins.
After the graduation speeches, students will be introduced. Students receiving graduate degrees will be introduced first, followed by Tacoma undergraduates, then Tribal undergraduates followed by the remaining undergraduates.
Each row will be directed to rise and form a line leading to the name readers. Please remain seated until a marshal directs you to line up to cross the stage. At the stage entrance, a marshal will direct you into one of two lines. At the top of the ramp, present your card to the name reader. A marshal will direct you across the stage to receive your diploma cover where you will have your first photograph taken. After you receive your diploma cover, a marshal will direct you off the stage for your final photograph.
