Sophie Bilezikian

Sophie and her husband John were introduced to Evergreen by their daughter Sara, who graduated with the Class of 2001. After Sara died in January of 2002, Sophie and John worked with Les Purce and members of the faculty and staff to develop the Sara Ann Bilezikian Fellowship for Masters in Environmental Studies. This ongoing project passed a milestone in 2004, when the endowment reached a level such that the first award could be made.

Sophie, a retired physician, graduated from Radcliffe College and from The Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She was trained in internal medicine and hematology, and spent several years in teaching and research. She then moved to corporate medicine as a staff physican, first for New York Telephone and then for Nynex.

Sophie and John live in Scarsdale, New York. Their other daughter, Diana, lives in New Haven. Sophie's passions are writing and music.
