SMART Grant for Juniors and Seniors Seeking BS or BA/BS Degreessee the Evergreen SMART policy What is the SMART Grant? The SMART Grant is a federal financial aid grant for juniors and seniors who are pursuing a BS or BA/BS. Juniors can receive up to $4,000 for the 2008-2009 school year and may qualify for an additional $4,000 as a senior in the 2008-2009 school year. Current seniors may qualify for $4,000. Who is eligible for the SMART Grant? To be eligible, you must meet all of the following requirements:
If you are planning to pursue a BS or a BA/BS and meet these requirements, please complete the BS/BAS Review Request Form and submit it to the Registration and Records Office.
Once your eligibility is determined you will be required to sign a Declaration of Intent Form indicating your plans to pursue a BS or BA/BS.
How do I maintain eligibilty for the SMART Grant? You must maintain a quarterly 3.0 GPA equivalency to continue receiving the SMART Grant. Your evaluations will also be reviewed annually to determine continued eligibility. Your Financial Aid Office must verify your quarterly levels of academic achievement for this program because you receive narrative assessments during evaluations rather than a grade. This input is provided to our office through the SMART Grant Verification of Eligibility Form. If you are already a SMART Grant recipient, then the SMART Grant Verification of Eligibility Form is emailed to you during the 9th week of each quarter and you must have your professor complete this form no sooner than the 10th week of classes. If you are registered in more than one class, you are required to have a professor from each class complete a SMART Grant Verification of Eligibility Form. What if I do not meet the requirements for continuing eligibility? If you decide not to pursue the BA or BA/BS degree, you must notify the Financial Aid and Registration and Records Offices immediately. If you do not meet the GPA equivalency requirement, drop below full-time or you do not complete the required classes, then you will have your SMART Grant cancelled and you may have to repay the funds you received. It is your responsibility to notify the Financial Aid and Registration offices if (a) your intent to pursue a BS or BA/BS changes or (b) if you drop below full-time. |
