Gift AidGrants and tuition waivers are gift aid and do not need to be repaid. They are awarded on the basis of financial need. Grants and tuition waivers that may be available to Evergreen students may include: Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)This grant is available to certain freshman and sophomore students. They are worth $750 first academic year and $1300 for the second academic year. To qualify for this grant, you must identify yourself as a possible candidate when you are filling out your FAFSA. More information about the ACG Grant Educational Opportunity Grant (EOG)The EOG program provides $2,500 grants to financially needy, placebound Washington residents as an incentive to complete a bachelor's degree at an eligible four-year college. Students must have already earned an associate of arts or sciences degree or achieved junior class standing. Students who meet the following criteria will be considered for the grant:
More information about the EOG from the HEC Board Evergreen Need Grant (ENG)The Evergreen Need Grant is funded by a need-based grant program and is available to eligible graduate and undergraduate students who are residents of Washington. This fund can be prorated for less than half-time enrollment. The maximum yearly amount for a full-time undergraduate student in the 2007-08 Academic Year was $2400, and the maximum yearly amount for a full-time graduate student for the 2007-08 Academic Year was $2700. Federal Pell GrantThe Pell Grant is the largest of the federal undergraduate grant programs. For the 2007-08 Academic Year, awards ranged from $400 to $4,310 for qualified students. It is available to eligible enrolled undergraduates. More information about the Pell Grant. The National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (SMART Grant)The SMART Grant is a new $4000 Federal Financial Aid Grant awarded to juniors and seniors who are pursuing a BS or BA/BS. Juniors can receive up to $4000 for the 2007-2008 school year and may qualify for an additional $4000 as a senior in the 2008-2009 school year. Current seniors may qualify for $4000. More information about the SMART Grant Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)The SEOG is a need-based grant program available to undergraduate students. Priority is given to full-time students having exceptional need. For the 2007-08 academic year, SEOG awards ranged from $900 for residents of Washington to $3,000 for non-residents. More information about SEOG State Need Grant (SNG)The SNG is a need-based grant available to eligible undergraduate residents of Washington with exceptional need. The SNG award amount is set by the Higher Education Coordinating (HEC) Board each spring. During the 2007-08 academic year, the maximum value for full-time academic year enrollment was $4188. This grant can be prorated for less than full time enrollment and under certain conditions additional funds can be approved for documented childcare expenses. Information about the SNG from the HEC Board Washington State Tuition Waiver (STW)The State Tuition Waiver is funded by a need-based state program available to eligible full-time graduate and undergraduate students who are residents of Washington. STW awards cover up to the cost of one to three quarters of resident tuition. Additional information on individual grants and waivers will be included with the letter of award for eligible students. EmploymentStudents will find opportunities to work on the Evergreen campus and in the community through the Student Employment Office. Financial need is required for Federal, State and Evergreen Work-Study programs. Some opportunities for non-need based employment are also available. Work-StudyThe federal or state government subsidizes part-time jobs for eligible work-study students. Available jobs can foster a wide variety of skills and responsibilities. The amount of work-study award varies and is determined by financial need and availablility of funds; the maximum award is $4,500 for the nine-month academic year. During the academic year, students may work no more than 19 hours per week during the quarter and may work up to 40 hours during evaluation week and breaks between quarters. There may be opportunities for full-time work-study during the summer. Students are responsible for applying for available positions and maintaining satisfactory performance on the job. More information from the Student Employment Office. Please note that funding for some programs (e.g. the Federal Perkins Loan, the SEOG, ENG, STW, and Work-Study) is very limited. Students demonstrating need may or may not receive this funding. Please file the FAFSA before the priority deadline and promptly return any materials that you receive from your financial aid office in order to help us provide you with the best possible aid. LoansLoans require the borrower to repay the amount borrowed plus any accrued interest. Loans vary in interest from 5% to 12% and may offer certain deferment options. Most students who qualify for financial aid, particularly out-of-state residents, find it necessary to borrow funds through the loan programs in order to meet the cost of attending Evergreen. Evergreen offers: and many of our students qualify for private or "Alternative Loans" as well. More information about How to Get a Loan ScholarshipsScholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. Criteria varies from scholarship to scholarship; some are strictly merit based and others combine merit and financial need. The Enrollment Services Office publishes an undergraduate scholarships brochure. Please call (360) 867-6310 to request a brochure. The undergraduate scholarship application deadline for most Evergreen scholarships is February 1. Graduate student scholorship application deadlines and forms depend on the the program.
