Visiting Faculty Position

Public Administration

Visiting Faculty position for Fall, Winter & Spring Quarters 2013/2014.  Teaching in our General and Tribal Governance cohorts.

The Evergreen State College is seeking a full-time Visiting Faculty Member for the 2013-2014 academic year, to teach in the Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program.  Course assignments include team teaching "Analytical Techniques for Public Service" in the fall and winter academic quarters in our both our General and Tribal cohorts. It also includes team-teaching the Capstone course for general cohort students in the spring quarter  

We seek a candidate with broad knowledge of and professional experience in public administration and public policy. College level teaching experience is required.  The successful candidate will have knowledge of education in social science research methods and both quantitative and qualitative data gathering and analysis techniques.  The successful candidate will also have experience doing research in an applied arena.  Also desired is an understanding of cross-cultural factors in research including protocols, social justice concerns and knowledge of legal and social concerns when conducting research in sovereign tribal nations. Consequently, knowledge and/or experience in tribal administration and policy are a significant plus. 

In addition to the regular teaching load of a full-time faculty member teaching in the MPA program, the successful candidate will also make a commitment to support the administration of the program by serving on committees, doing service work for the program, participating in all faculty governance of the program and  have an active public service/scholarly agenda.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Ph.D. in Public Administration, Public Affairs, Public Policy, Political Science, Leadership Studies, Business Administration, or other related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching courses at the college level.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching research methods and statistics.
  • Knowledge of, and education in, social science research methods and practices.
  • Experience in doing applied research.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in public administration;
  • Knowledge and/or experience in Indian education and tribal policy/administration;
  • An understanding of cross-cultural factors in research including protocols, social justice concerns and knowledge of legal and social concerns when conducting research in sovereign tribal nations.

This is a Visiting Faculty position and is not eligible for continuing appointment. Salary for all positions based on experience and degrees. We do not offer relocation expenses for our visiting faculty positions.
