Public Administration

The Evergreen State College is seeking a regular, full-time faculty member to teach in the Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program with a concentration in Tribal Governance.  The successful candidate will be expected to team teach courses across the entire MPA curriculum as part of the year-long Core class sequence (titles: Context of Public Administration, Doing Democratic Public Administration, Policy, Finance, and Budgeting for Public Administration, Analytical Techniques for Public Service, and Capstone) as well as teach concentration courses in the areas of Tribal Economics, Sovereignty, Intergovernmental Relations, Tribal Organizations, and Tribal Policy.

We seek a candidate with broad knowledge of and professional experience in public administration/tribal governance.  College level teaching experience is required. Working with the MPA faculty team, this faculty member will engage in developing contemporary curriculum for the entire MPA program with specific responsibilities for the Tribal Governance Concentration. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues on a variety of governance assignments within the MPA program (e.g. advising, admissions, recruitment, and building community relationships) and across the college. MPA faculty are expected to maintain an active public service/scholarly agenda.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Doctorate degree (Ph.D., D.P.A., D.B.A., J.D. will be considered) in any of the following fields OR a Master’s degree in any of the following fields coupled with a minimum of 7 years professional experience in working with Native American, Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian tribal governments and/or communities. Degree fields: Public Administration or Public Affairs, Public Management, Public Policy, or other related fields (Ex. Public Health, Organizational Development, Political Science, Leadership Studies, Business Administration, Indigenous Governance, Economics, Community Development/Planning, Non-Profit Administration);
  • College level teaching experience;
  • Capacity to teach a variety of courses in the areas of public administration, tribal policy, and social science research methods with an emphasis on Native American, Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian governments;
  • Professional experience working as a member of a team; and
  • Experience working with diverse and underrepresented populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting applied research;
  • Experience mentoring and advising graduate students who are mid-career professionals; and
  • Experience developing graduate level curriculum.
