CAB Update for October 7, 2009
Inside:
Demolition and removal of material continues. Window removal is almost complete. Asbestos abatement has taken longer than expected and is almost complete. HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) ductwork is being installed for the new mechanical systems.
Outside:
The new outside ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) ramp to Red Square is being framed. Also, the new stairway from Red Square to the first floor west entry is being formed. The west exterior walls are being removed, so that the new addition can be attached. The installation of a new roof will begin soon.
Special Interest:
As materials are removed and cleaned from the building, they are being sorted for recycling. This method is being employed as part of the College's commitment to have the renovated CAB be rated as a Gold LEED building. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The Seminar II Building was awarded the Gold LEED rating in 2006 and was the first building in Washington State to receive this rating. More can be found out about LEED certification at http://www.usgbc.org
