Vacation Leave - Accrual

Exempt Staff: Exempt employees earn 14.67 hours of vacation leave per month and can use that time when it is accrued.

Classified Staff: Permanent employees are eligible to take accrued vacation leave with pay after six months of employment. A maximum of 30 working days (240 hours) may be accumulated. If not used, hours over 240 are lost on the anniversary date. Vacation leave accrues for full-time employees as follows:

During 1st year (continuous state employment) 12 days (8.0 hours per month)
During 2nd (continuous state employment) 13 days
During 3rd/4th years (continuous state employment) 14 days
During 5th through 9th years (total state employment)15 days
During 10th years 16 days
During 11th year 17 days
During 12th year 18 days
During 13th year 19 days
During 14th year 20 days
During 15th year 21 days
During 16th year and thereafter 22 days

Part-time employees leave accrual will be pro-rated according to the percentage of employment.

Sick Leave

Full-time permanent employees earn one day of sick leave each month. Paid sick leave may be used for the following: illness, injury, or preventive health care; exposure to a contagious disease that might endanger others; disability due to pregnancy or childbirth; illness, injury, or death of relatives. Permanent part-time employees earn sick leave based on the ratio of their hours worked to the hours required for full employment. Leave Request form: (Word | PDF)

Shared Leave

Employees may donate accrued sick or annual leave or all or part of their personal holiday to a fellow state employee who is suffering from or has a relative or household member suffering from an extraordinary or severe illness or impairment which may cause the employee to take leave without pay or terminate employment. Employees who want to donate or to receive shared leave should contact the Human Resource Office for further information.

Holidays

Employees are entitled to eight hours of paid time on designated holidays. Those employees who work alternate schedules will need to use annual leave or make up the additional hours during the week of the holiday.
Full-time permanent employees are entitled to eleven paid holidays:

Personal Holiday

Each classified/exempt employee who has been continuously employed by the institution/related board for more than four months shall be entitled to select one personal holiday per calendar year in accordance with the 2007-09 CBA Article 9.4. Leave Request Form: (Word | PDF)

Personal Leave Day

Each classified/exempt employee who has been continuously employed by the college for more than four months shall be entitled to select one personal leave day during the 2007-09 collective bargaining agreement in accordance with Article 16.3. Leave Request Form: (Word | PDF)

Civil Leave

Employees are allowed leave with pay for jury duty or to perform other civil duties. Leave pay will be equal to full salary for the time involved. Any reimbursement received by the employee must be returned to the College. Leave Request Form: (Word | PDF)

Military Leave

Military training leave with pay is permitted to a maximum of 15 work days in any one year. An employee entering military service, U.S. Peace Corps, or U.S. Public Health Service for active duty is entitled to leave of absence without pay. The employee will be restored to his or her position, or one of similar classification and salary, in state service if reinstatement is requested within 90 days after release form active duty. Leave for Union Activities (Procedures)

Prior to leave, employees must fill out a leave slip and mark the box titled "other" for the type of leave taken. Employees should also indicate what the Union activity is in the "comments" section and should reference the appropriate section of the Union contract that they are following. The supervisor needs to approve and sign the leave form and submit it to Human Resource Services. Leave Request Form: (Word | PDF)

Leave Without Pay

Leave without pay may be granted for prolonged illness, maternity causes, educational pursuit, or other valid reason. Though the employee retains his or her relative job status, no pay or other compensation is received during this leave. The employee's seniority and periodic increment dates are adjusted by the leave without pay days.
Employees who are eligible and meet the criteria for Family Medical Leave may receive 12 weeks of paid medical benefits during a leave without pay. For more information or to determine eligibility, please contact the Human Resource Services office in SEM 4107, call extension 5361 or email us.

Unemployment Compensation
