There is currently one full-time overtime-exempt Admissions Coordinator for Community College Relations position available on the Olympia Campus of The Evergreen State College. This position is an “at-will” appointment, exempt from Washington State Civil Service rules and the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime requirements.

  • Salary range is $2,874 to $3,285 per month of full time work.

Counsel prospective students and inform educators and parents about the College and its available educational opportunities, and assist in attracting and maintaining a diverse student body consistent with the College’s goals and objectives.

The Admissions Coordinator for Community College Relations reports to the Director of Admissions and will be responsible for for managing the recruitment effort for prospective community college transfer students to the college.  The position primarily oversees and participates in the recruitment and travel planning to community colleges within the state of Washington and represents the college on pertinent statewide committees related to community college recruitment.  Some out-of-state recruitment may be required.  In addition to these responsibilities, the position will also collect and compile admissions recruitment data contributing to the overall assessment of community college recruitment in the office.  The remainder of time will be spent establishing transfer articulation agreements with community colleges while maintaining those agreements already in place, interpreting and communicating state and institutional admission policy for prospective transfer students, advising prospective students both in groups or individual sessions, participating in events/functions sponsored by the Office of Admissions or other college offices, representing the college to internal and external audiences, reviewing admission applications to the college, and generally serving as the college’s “point person” on all community college transfer-related admission matters.


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Two years counseling (admissions, financial aid, student advising, employment, social services, etc.) experience.


  • Understanding of Evergreen’s distinctive approach to education.
  • Experience promoting interdisciplinary education.
  • Experience counseling and advising community college transfer students.
  • Knowledge of principles to provide counseling and advising to prospective Veteran students.
  • Bilingual ability, preferably Spanish-speaking.
  • Establish and foster relationships with organizations that work specifically with multicultural and underserved populations.

  • Provide admissions counseling information about the college (which may include, but is not limited to, academic programs/curriculum, financial aid, scholarships, campus housing, and student life) to prospective students in the office and in the field via written correspondence, in person, e-mail, or by telephone.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with community colleges throughout the state of Washington.
  • Coordinate and participate in the extensive travel outreach to community colleges on day and extended recruitment trips.
  • Coordinate transfer articulation agreements and interpret transfer credit policy on behalf of the Office of Admissions.
  • Promote, articulate and enhance Evergreen’s Upside Down technical degree transfer program
  • Present to large and small groups of people and field questions accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records related to the recruitment of prospective community college transfer students as required by law, policies or administrative procedures.
  • Provide out-of-state recruitment assistance as needed.
  • Represent the college by conducting public presentations at college fairs, Preview Day, college information sessions, and other activities as required.
  • Provide in-office admissions support including presenting information sessions, networking and establishing relationships with faculty and academic programs, and manipulating and interpreting data to support prospective student recruitment efforts.
  • Collaborate with Enrollment Services staff and campus colleagues in the planning, promotion, assessment, development, evaluation and revision of programs, events and scheduled activities related to the mission of the college. 
  • Work effectively with and relate well with others who represent different cultural, race/ethnicity backgrounds, ages, physical and/or learning ability, educational level, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender, and socio-economic background from the employee.
  • Advise director on all matters related to community college recruitment.  
  • Respond to various forms of communication (electronic, written, and verbal).

  • Participate on the Intercollege Relations Commission (ICRC) unit of the Washington Council for High School & College Relations (WCHSCR).
  • Coordinate community college recruitment outreach strategy.
  • Represent the Office of Admissions on the Evening and Weekend Studies Coordinating Committee.
  • Evening and weekend work as needed.
  • Provide general in-office admissions support.
  • Other duties as assigned by director.

  • Ability to organize data and produce reports using the college’s data-management system (currently SCT Banner).
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Familiarity using computer applications and word processing in a Microsoft Windows environment.

  • Extensive travel, including extended travel and overnight trips, and to be in compliance with Evergreen’s eligible driver requirements.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours (on- and off- campus).
  • Ability to move materials such as catalogues, brochures and display equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must provide proof of identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of beginning work.
  • May be required to submit to a background check.
  • This position is assigned to part of the college that is covered by a union shop provision and a collective bargaining agreement.  Employees are required to pay an amount equal to the fees or dues required to be a member of the union to the Washington Federation of State Employees within thirty days of their date of hire.
