SPECIAL NOTE
There is currently one full-time overtime-exempt Coordinator for the Office of Sexual Violence Prevention position available on the Olympia Campus of The Evergreen State College. This is a cyclic (ten month per year) position from September 1st through June 30th each year with health care benefits paid year-round. This position is an “at-will” appointment, exempt from Washington State Civil Service rules and the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime requirements.

COMPENSATION
- Salary is $2,537 to $2,899 per month of full time work.
- Experience and training may be considered in salary placement.

POSITION PURPOSE
Coordinate College and community resources to maintain a comprehensive and inclusive program of sexual violence response and prevention, consistent with college policies and procedures as well as applicable federal and state laws. The Coordinator serves on the Sexual Misconduct Response Network along with other practitioners and administrative staff.
NATURE AND SCOPE
The Sexual Violence Prevention Coordinator reports to the Director of Health and Counseling Services and will provide outreach services, prevention, and interventions around the health and well being of Evergreen students in the area of Sexual violence prevention. This position will be part of the campus response team, which includes Health and Counseling Services, Police Services, and the campus Senior Conduct Administrator, and also a member of the Campus Response Team when an incident involves sexual assault and/or interpersonal violence. The Sexual Violence Prevention Coordinator is part of the Student Affairs Division within the college and works with other Student and Academic Support Services (Academic Advising, Career Development and Planning, Access Services for Students with Disabilities, First People’s Advising Services, KEY Services, Student Activities, and the Health and Counseling Center) to promote and encourage student success.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Two years professional experience with issues of sexual assault or equivalent volunteer experience in agency or advocacy program.
- Additional relevant experience and training may be substituted for educational requirements.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s Degree.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Act as an advocate for students who have experienced sexual violence; advise and counsel students. Provide survivors with emotional, legal, and medical advocacy. May include going to the hospital or attending investigation and conduct proceedings with the survivor.
- Collaborate and coordinate efforts with Safeplace and other community agencies to enhance the level of support available to survivors on campus an in the community.
- Work closely with student groups such as Coalition Against Sexual Violence, Women of Color Coalition, Queer and Trans People of Color Alliance, Feminists in Self Defense Training, and the Women’s Center.
- Supervise one or more students including the Peer Intern for the Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and any other volunteers or advocates.
- Develop on going educational programs, which educate and inform faculty, staff, and students on issues about sexual and interpersonal or domestic violence.
- Develop, monitor, and manage the budget.
- Coordinate outreach prevention programs that include speakers, presentations, workshops, and films.
- Collaborate with various offices and academic programs to provide prevention programming throughout the year, as well as during New Student Orientation, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
- Coordinate educational and response protocol with Student Affairs offices such as, but not limited to, the Health and Counseling Center, Police Services, Housing Services, and the Senior Conduct Administrator.
- Establish a collegial and working relationship with Olympia based organizations such as law enforcement agencies, local hospitals, and other community resources.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Serve on committees regarding student life and safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Health and Counseling Services.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong commitment to the development and promotion of a campus environment free from sexual and domestic violence.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with applicable federal and state laws, and college policies and issues regarding sexual misconduct and violence.
- Ability to respond to crisis and emergency situations in an effective and timely manner.
- Supervision experience; skill in working with both paid and volunteer staff.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to deal with conflict, crisis, and sensitive situations through use of advocacy, conflict management, verbal and written skills.
- Knowledge of crisis response and conflict management techniques.
- Familiarity with and sensitivity to diverse populations (students of color, gay/lesbian, bisexual, transgender, etc.). Knowledge of how to work effectively with people of diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds in achieving organization goals and mission.
- Ability to use good judgment and maintain confidentiality.
- Possess computer literacy and word processing skills to produce flyers, reports, and general correspondence.
- Ability to create, organize, and maintain records, files, and notes.
- Strong public presentation and written communication skills.
- Ability to successfully develop, monitor, and manage a budget.
- Able to work flexible hours, including some evening and weekend work.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
