POSITION PURPOSE
Under the general direction of the Coordinator of Photography and with other photography personnel, this position will create documentary, editorial, and public relations material for various print and online college publications, including catalogs, an alumni magazine and various recruitment pieces. The photographer must be able to photograph for print and for the web. The photographer will also be expected to assist with faculty, staff, and students in individual consultations and through informal group instruction. The photographer will be expected to supervise a student intern. This position will work as a member of the library’s photography area, which supports the college and community with instruction and production. The library’s photography area is state of the art, supporting photography as both analog and digital media.
COMPENSATION
- Experience and training may be considered in salary placement;
- Salary range is $3,135 to $4,114 per month depending on qualifications;

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plan, organize and prepare photography materials for college information and public relations projects.
- Photograph in studio, classroom and field environments using both natural and artificial lighting.
- Photograph sports events, and off campus activities.
- Produce high quality photography primarily through documentary, editorial, and public relations approaches for many college publications, including catalogs, a magazine, and various recruitment pieces.
- Create online photo/audio/video multi-media presentations.
- Working in collaboration with college editors and designers, the photographer must be able to conceptualize, design, and execute photography assignments that meet the needs of the client and the college as a whole.
- Create photographs of individuals and small groups for college publications and organizations.
- Serve as technical and creative resource for students, staff, and faculty.
- Consult with clients or staff to determine project goals, locations, and equipment needs.
- Select equipment and organize background arrangements according to subjects, materials, and conditions.
- Enhance, retouch, and resize digital images digitally.
- Set up and install photographic equipment and cameras.
- Produce color managed digital images, suitable for pre-press and exhibition purposes.
- Perform other tasks as needed related to Photo Services lab production (scanning, digital printing, film developing, copy slides, customer services) and Instructional Photography (teaching workshops).
- Perform maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment working properly.
- Maintain inventory of camera and studio equipment and perform simple repairs as necessary.
- Keep accurate records and create weekly invoices.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Proven skills in creating in-depth documentary or editorial photo essays.
- Demonstrated professional ability in the creative uses of photography for meaningful expression and communication.
- Technical expertise with professional photography equipment, especially digital SLRs.
- Ability to quickly turn around high quality optimized imagery for print and the web.
- Professional level expertise with digital editing, workflow, and color management practices.
Image management and cataloging techniques. - Demonstrated expertise in studio lighting techniques.
- Experience creating online multimedia sound and slide presentations.
- Demonstrated experience working with audio and video recording.
- Demonstrated experience working in RAW (dng,) Flash and/or Silverlight formats.
- Ability and experience in graphic design for print and web.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students, staff, faculty and the public.
- Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively.
- Demonstrated experience in maintaining photographic equipment and computers.
- Experience in maintaining inventory records and in invoicing procedures.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- As a condition of employment, persons hired must provide proof of identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of beginning work, and persons will be required to submit to a background check;
- This position is assigned to part of the institution that is covered by a union shop provision of the Department of Personnel/Higher Education Division. Therefore, new employees are required to pay dues to the Federation of State Employees within thirty (30) days of their hiring date.
