President's Diversity Fund Instructions
2009–10 Diversity Theme: Reimagining Community
The President’s Diversity Fund will provide mini-grants to support innovative proposals that address the 2009-10 Diversity Fund theme and are specifically intended “to develop the Evergreen learning community’s knowledge, skills and abilities to work, teach, study, learn and interact as a community of individuals committed to cross-cultural equity and social justice." Applicants are encouraged to secure letters of support/intent to participate from faculty, college offices, and/or student organizations.
Requirements of Grant:
- Current faculty, staff and students of The Evergreen State College may apply. This includes those from the Olympia campus, Tacoma campus, Reservation Based – Community Determined and Grays Harbor daytime, evening and weekend programs.
- Complete the Project Budget Worksheet and have it ready when you begin your online application.
- Complete the online grant application here http://collab.evergreen.edu/surveys/diversityfund.
- To receive funding and final approval, you must include documentation confirming that the you have either:
a) secured financial support from other specifically identified sponsors to cover at least 25% of the total cost of the proposed activity/program; or
b) secured written support for the event from three or more academic programs. - Applicants are required to publicize their event in the Cooper Point Journal (CPJ). The ad must be at least one-quarter page and must appear in the edition of the CPJ prior to the event. The cost of the ad should be included in the budget plan and uploaded into the online application. The CPJ deadline is the Monday before each week’s edition. - May, 2010 is the last opportunity to apply for a grant for activities planned for June through October, 2010.
Restrictions:
- Funds cannot be provided to offset the cost of student’s individual academic work, to pay for personal travel, conference registration fees, training session fees or similar expenses.
- Diversity Funds are state monies. Any money collected in an event must either go back into the Diversity Fund, or to another Evergreen state budget. Additionally, when admission is charged for events produced with Diversity funds, the money must be credited to the Diversity Fund in proportion to the support provided by the fund.
- In no case can money be given, or donated to a non-state-governmental entity.
- All applicable state laws and college policies pertaining to cash handing, raffles, food handling, etc. and must be complied with.
President’s Diversity Fund Meetings and Deadlines for Grant Applications:
- Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible.
- Applicants are strongly encouraged to make an oral presentation before the President’s Diversity Fund Committee during one of its monthly meetings.
- The Committee reviews applications at its regularly scheduled meetings. Applications that are submitted two weeks prior to a meeting date will be reviewed at that meeting.
- Applications received less than two weeks before the next scheduled President’s Diversity Fund Committee meeting will receive consideration the following month. Click here for a list of the Diversity Fund Committee meetings.
