This series of short videos present a ledger of how the "average" Lebanese citizen negotiated their everyday life during and immediately following the 2006 Israeli war on Lebanon. Compelling vignettes give voice to a street-cleaner in the deserted Martyrs Square, women and children displaced from the south, family members of a martyred fighter, and a man who survived the bombardment of the south with his family during the month-long war. Far from the bombastic frenzy of media broadcast, the tragedy of war is recorded with humility and simplicity. This documentary was screened at the ArteEast Film Festival at New York University and at the Portland International Film Fesitval this spring, and is produced with support from the IFPO (Institut Francais du Proche Orient).
RANIA STEPHAN, a Lebanese filmmaker, will be joining us for discussion following her film.
