Blaster Fix

MS Blaster cleaning guidelines:

1. Make sure laptop is not connected to network.

2. Insert CD, then open My Computer and right click on the Resnet Anti Blaster icon and choose Open or Explore from the context menu.

3. Run stinger.exe to clean the system if infected - scan c:\

4. Determine operating system level by right clicking on My Computer and choosing Properties from the context menu.

~ Machines running Windows 2000 must be at Service Pack 2 or greater to install the required patch. If a Windows 2000 system is at SP1 or lower then install Service Pack 4 from the CD - 1_Windows_2000_ServicePack_4.exe - and reboot.

~ Machines running Windows XP can install the patch regardless of Service Pack level.

5. Install the appropriate MS03-039 patch - named *Blaster_Hotfix.exe on the CD.

Disks & Disk Care

Buying a Disk:
Diskettes, CDs, DVDs, and Zip Disks are not available in the Computer Center. You can purchase them at the Bookstore.

The Macs in the Center can only burn DVD-R media and will NOT work with DVD+R media.

Ejecting a Disk:
For a Mac, with your mouse, drag the disk (drive) icon down to the task bar (see OS X section) trash can icon on the far bottom-right.

For a PC, close all windows open on the screen (or, anything where something on the disk is shown/open) and then push the disk drive button on the computer where your disk is located.

Formatting a Disk:

Most 3.5" floppy disks are already formatted when you purchase them. Disks formatted for the Mac will not work on a PC, however, PC disks will work on both.

On a PC, open "My Computer," right-click on the disk (A:\) and select Format.

Disk Care:
Obviously, keeping your disks in a case is the best way to insure proper care and archiving of your work. If you must lay a CD/DVD down somewhere, make sure the shiny-side is facing up and the title-side down.
