Commute by Bus

Public transit is an easy way to move around Olympia, and to Tacoma and Seattle.

Evergreen is served year-round by two Intercity Transit bus routes, route 41, route 48 as well as the student-funded Nightline during the fall, winter, and spring quarters. More local routes and schedule information on Intercity Transit’s website.

Not sure how to get to your destination by bus? Plan your next bus trip with Intercity Transit’s trip planner. You can also call their customer service at (360) 786-1881 seven days a week.

Transit Passes

For Students

Students enrolled at The Evergreen State College ride free on Intercity Transit buses. Simply show your student ID card with the correct sticker on it. This is not valid on express service to Tacoma and Seattle.

Fare or passes must be purchased separately when students are not currently enrolled (e.g. during summer quarter).

For Employees

Evergreen employees, including part-time permanent employees, are eligible for the STAR (State Agency Rider) pass. The STAR pass allows you to ride any Intercity Transit bus, including the express service to Tacoma, at no charge. The STAR pass can be used on any Intercity Transit bus at any time and for any reason. Use the STAR pass to commute to work or school, for shopping, for recreation, or to go to dinner.

To get your STAR pass, visit the Parking Services office in the Seminar Building. Be sure to familiarize yourself with all the important details about the STAR pass program.

Fully Connected and Real-Time

One Bus Away provides real-time bus arrival information for your stop. It’s available on your mobile device, from the web, or by text message.

Bikes on Buses

Bike and ride service is provided on all city and county routes and on Intercity Transit Express service to Tacoma. Many commuters ride their bikes to the nearest bus stop and then ride the bus the rest of the way to work or school. Two bicycles can be carried on any bicycle rack. Space is available on a first-come basis. Learn more on Intercity Transit’s Bike & Ride website.

Commuter Lockers

Ventilated clothing lockers for drying and storing belongings are located on the first level of the Library, the CAB, Seminar II, and the COM building, as well as in the basement of Lab I. Lockers are assigned at the Parking Services office on campus. Learn more about Evergreen’s commuter lockers.
