Guidelines for use of the Evergreen wordmark

The wordmark is a crucial element of the college's graphic identity. It is used for consistency and identification of online and printed publications that represent the college. The wordmark spells out the name "Evergreen" with an enlarged "G" and a line beneath the type that runs through the bottom of the "G."
Note: the wordmark shown here is for on-screen use only.

To preserve the integrity and effectiveness of the wordmark:

  • Use only approved versions of the wordmark
  • Maintain its proportions – Do not resize (stretch) it in one direction (horizontally or vertically) without also resizing it in the other direction by the exact same percentage
  • Do not bend, curve or otherwise distort it
  • The wordmark may be used in Evergreen's official green, black or white only.
  • Do not assign it a color other than green (HEX #46502B for on-screen use)
  • Do not redraw, recreate or re-typset it
  • Do not combine it with any other graphic that intrudes upon the space of the college wordmark, competes with it or compromizes its appearance as a visual unit. Allow clear space around the entire wordmark in all directions, equal to the width of the letter E.

Guidelines for the Evergreen logo

The Evergreen State College logo is a drawing depicting a tree against a background of sun, sky and mountain. It is used only in limited formal settings or on documents or items intended for internal or official use. All print and Web publications intended to be seen outside the Evergreen community should use the wordmark, not the logo.

Do not alter the logo.

Rationale for the uses of the wordmark and logo

As student recruitment has become increasingly competitive among colleges, name recognition has become crucial. The wordmark contains the name "Evergreen," and promotes name recognition in a way the logo cannot. This is why the wordmark, developed in 1999 by Evergreen's graphic staff, has been adopted as the graphic element to appear on all publications and Web pages that represent Evergreen to external audiences.

There are also guidelines for those times when Evergreen must be typed rather than appearing in a wordmark or logo format:

The full name should be typed as "The Evergreen State College" not TESC, Evergreen State College or Evergreen State. The use of "Evergreen" may be used after "The Evergreen State College" has been established on the same design, document or page. TESC is only used in legalese or internal communications (although discouraged) as it is the official acronym for another college and does not promote name or geographic recognition of Evergreen as well as other options.
