Infants – Little Lambs

lamb roomWelcome to the Evergreen Campus Children's Center Little Lamb room. As the lead teacher of the infant room I would like to tell you a few things about our program. We are eager to get to know you and your child.

In the lamb room our routine depends on the babies. They eat when they are hungry, and sleep when they are tired. We do try to go outside on most days, and find that midmorning usually works best. Some children enjoy bouncing around looking at stuff on our walks; others prefer to sleep because the movement is soooo soothing. If you peek in our room during the day you may see one baby being gently rocked or fed, others are joined on the floor by a teacher playing with toys. Someone may be swaying or dancing to music with an adult friend. We strive to have a calming home-like natural atmosphere. There are times when we are extremely active and noisy, and other times when we are very mellow, and lots of in betweens. It is not at all odd to see a teacher with three children climbing all over him or her, because we believe we are part of the furniture. I like to think of myself as a baby gym.

Toddler 1 – Skunklings

Classroom Description:duckling room

Each child has their own “cubby” at their height for their belongings, labeled with their name and picture.  At mealtimes, Skunklings sit at the table while eating and drinking.  We use plates, sippy-cups with lids, and eating utensils during meal times.  Children who drink from bottles may sit in a chair, or in a lap, whichever they desire.  Our rest time begins around 11:30, when the children finish with lunch.  Children showing a need for an alternate rest schedule will be given the opportunity to rest, as they need.  Diapers are checked every two hours, and when the need arises in-between.  We go outside every day, in all kinds of weather, and our play can often be messy.  We have lots of fun!!

A day in the Skunkling Room:

There is no “typical” day with one-year-olds.  Each day presents a new array of emotions, energy and interests.  Our Center provides relationship-based care and we focus on the needs of each individual child in our care.  Mealtimes are the only fixed times in the Skunkling Room, and even those can change for an individual child if they are sleeping during the scheduled mealtime.  Each day activities are provided to stimulate development and provide challenges.  If the children show an interest in something other than what is offered; we then alter our routine as teachers to allow the children to explore, discover, and play, as they desire.

Toddler 2- Frogs

Welcome to the Frog Room!

Frogs develop at their own rate, but several areas that we will concentrate on are: sensory/cognitive, fine motor and gross motor, social and emotional, language and literacy, music, science and art development.  Each week activities will be planned to enhance each area.  Some Frogs are more verbal than others, but that doesn't slow them down any.  We hope when they go home that they will share their fun and learning with you at home!  On the clipboard we keep a "What we did today" note for all to read and discuss with your child.

frog roomWe believe in learning through play.  While children are playing in the centers throughout the room, we as teachers can establish social awareness, exploration of their senses, build stronger language and literacy skills, while promoting cleaning-up before moving on, and being able to make choices/understanding consequences.

One final note, frogs spend over half their time learning toileting and self-help skills.  To help each child to be successful in this process, please dress your child in easy to pull-up and down clothing: no onesies or overalls, shirts that can be easily rolled up for hand washing, and shoes that they can help put on.  In addition, we ask for at least one set of extra clothes to be kept in each child's cubby.  Several sets of clothes are preferred.  Please supply your child with diapers or pull-ups and wipes.  When you get low, a note will be posted as a reminder to bring in more.  We are also asking you to bring your child dressed in appropriate outdoor clothing (puddle boots are great!).  We want your child to enjoy our outside time each day, rain or shine!  Please make sure to label all things from home.

Preschool 2 – Geoducks

Welcome to the Geoduck Room!

geoduck roomWe are that last room on the left at the end of the hall, and the oldest children in the building.  This room has up to 20 children, 2 professional staff, and at least 1 student staff who will probably not be the same person everyday.  The curriculum is a blend of planned and unplanned, adult directed and what emerges from the children.  We use the seasons, campus rhythm and the natural environment.  We do not celebrate holidays, but rather ourselves and our accomplishments.

The Geoducks are experimenting with life, conflict resolution, co-operation, group dynamics, social interactions and the world around them.  They are developing empathy, confidence, body awareness and readiness to leave here, moving on to new adventures.

You will receive a Geoduck Handbook that will be in depth and specific about life in the Geoduck Room.  Thank you for sharing yourself and your child with us.  I am looking forward to getting to know you and you Geoduck!
