Toddler 1 – Bunnies

Welcome to the Evergreen Campus Children's Center Bunny Room As the lead teacher of the one year old room I would like to tell you a few things about our program. We are eager to get to know you and your child.

In the Bunny room the children's ages range from one to 20 months, sometimes a little older, depending on developmental needs. Our basic routine is fairly flexible according to individual needs. We offer breakfast at 8:30, lunch at 11:00, and rest from 11:30 till we wake up. We have snack between 1:30 and 2:00. We sit in chairs for mealtimes, use sippy cups with lids, and are learning to use utensils and plates. We try to use some simple sign language throughout the day, but especially at mealtimes. We find that eat, more, all done and drink are all easy to pick up at mealtime, and really support their communication skills. We go outside every morning and afternoon, no matter what weather. We may stay out a much shorter time if it is cold and wet, but we still try to get some fresh air and a chance to run. We have many fun activities that we do throughout the day. We offer chances to explore art activities, sensory fun, and songs and books.

Each child has his or her own cubby for their belongings, and sleep on their own little cot at rest time. We change their diapers and clothing as needed. We spend a lot of time learning how to play with our friends, and generally have a good time most of the day.

A typical day in the Bunny room will include play time, a chance to explore our developmental abilities, and meet new challenges both physically and cognitively. We are one, so sometimes we get hungry or tired at a different time then we offer. If they do, we do our best to accommodate their needs. It looks like we are just "playing" but in truth we are learning so much each day.

Toddler 2- Owls

Toddlerhood is a tangle of physical and emotional wants and needs that exist on an ever-changing and unpredictable rollercoaster ride.  To assist children through this erratic phase in their life; the Owl Room curriculum provides the consistency, boundaries, and structure that fosters trust, confidence, and predictability which builds a strong foundation for the relationship between child and caregiver.  Also, the Owl Room curriculum is designed to enhance development by taking in to account the interests of each child and by establishing activities which provide children challenges in addition to opportunities to be successful.

Each day presents a new array of emotions, energy frog roomand interests.  Our Center provides relationship-based care and we focus on the needs of each individual child in our care.  If the children show an interest in something other than what is offered; we then alter our routine as teachers, to allow the children to explore, discover, and play, as they desire.

Each day, the Owl Room staff generally consists of two professional staff, one of whom opens the classroom while the other closes the classroom to provide a strong, consistent presence.  Daily support is often provided by student workers, who bring with them: their love for children, their desire to understand children's development, and their eagerness to teach as well as learn from the children in their care.

Preschool 1- Foxes

Welcome to the Fox Room!

fox room

In the Fox Room we spend our time:

  • building confidence.
  • exploring the world around us.
  • experimenting and creating.
  • walking outside our comfort zone once in awhile.
  • making choices and following our interests and passions.

The children in the Fox Room range in age from about two and a half to about four years old.  Through a combination of planned and emergent activities, the Foxes are learning about themselves, their world, and their place in the world. A new staff member recently described a day in the Fox Room as being "made of small triumphs". The Foxes are learning to do things for themselves; practicing putting on their own socks and learning to pour their own milk. By gaining confidence in their skills and themselves, the Foxes are gaining confidence in their abilities and building a strong foundation for the enjoyment of learning.

We work hard to create an environment where the children feel safe and valued. The Fox Room has two professional staff as well as a Student Staff; the Student Staff positions rotate on a quarterly basis. A unique aspect to the center is the involvement of the Evergreen students. The Student Staff bring with them energy, ideas and interests; their involvement and support are integral to our program. We have a daily schedule and weekly curriculum that we try to follow closely. Built into the schedule are many opportunities for choice and for children to explore their personal interests.

Our curriculum uses art, music, literature, nature, our outdoor environment, the campus, people, our senses, field trips, science, observation, manipulatives, foreign languages, and much more to support developmental growth.

We are always willing and excited to talk about our classroom and curriculum. Stop in for a visit and check out what we are up to!

Preschool 2 – Geoducks

Welcome to the Geoduck Room!

geoduck roomWe are that last room on the left at the end of the hall, and the oldest children in the building.  This room has up to 20 children, 2 professional staff, and at least 1 student staff who will probably not be the same person everyday.  The curriculum is a blend of planned and unplanned, adult directed and what emerges from the children.  We use the seasons, campus rhythm and the natural environment.  We do not celebrate holidays, but rather ourselves and our accomplishments.

The Geoducks are experimenting with life, conflict resolution, co-operation, group dynamics, social interactions and the world around them.  They are developing empathy, confidence, body awareness and readiness to leave here, moving on to new adventures.

You will receive a Geoduck Handbook that will be in depth and specific about life in the Geoduck Room.  Thank you for sharing yourself and your child with us.  I am looking forward to getting to know you and you Geoduck!
