Dear members of the campus community,
As the farm and it's activities have grown over the past four years, a group of concerned students, faculty and staff created the Center for Ecological Learning and Living (CELL) which meets regularly to coordinate Farm activities and to develop a long term vision. In response to the other long-term planning activities occurring recently (revision of the Strategic Plan, the campus master plan, and the discussion of sustainability on campus), the work on creating a vision for the future of the Organic Farm intensified over the last six months. The results of our discussions are contained in the attached document. With the release of this vision statement, we are beginning the process of determining the future directions for both the Farm as a facility and for the current and future programs that use the Farm for teaching and learning.
This document is intended to serve as a stimulus for campus-wide discussions, as well as a call for other interested parties to become involved in what will be a long and productive process. We anticipate having a number of open forums to discuss, examine, and resolve the issues we have raised, as well as others we may not anticipated. At this point, we don’t have any specific ideas on how best to do this, but if you do (especially if you have facilitation skills), we’d love to hear from you. Our expectation is that these discussions will begin next fall, however if you have specific comments that you wish to share at this time, you can send them in response to this email.
The timing of our release of this document is not a reflection of any strategy to limit discussion, but rather a result of the other demands on our time...we just got it done and wanted to share it as soon as possible. We feel that the possibilities are exciting and look forward the discussions and journey ahead.
Sincerely,
Martha Rosemeyer, Steve Scheuerell, Melissa Barker, and Paul Przybylowicz

A group of students from Field Ecology studied two candidate areas for potential expansion of the TESC organic farm. They looked at the ecological variables inside these two hypothetical forest expansion stands. Recommendations for expansion of the Organic Farm: Snags, Plants, Birds, and Trees . This is the presentation that Jordan Erickson has put together from Assessing ecological variables.
