Students will study the historically unique election cycle of 2024. They will follow election relevant events and trends such as the criminal and civil trials of former president Donald Trump, the Republican primary campaigns, the state of the economy, the opinions of unaffiliated voters and traditional Republicans, etc. Based upon their research, they will compile and submit weekly reports of their findings; these findings will include an analysis of the impact of key developments (such as the ongoing impact of the Supreme Court’s anti-abortion ruling) on the outcome of national and state political races in November. These reports will serve as the basis for in-class discussion. Students will rely on reportage from the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, the major networks, and other sources of political analysis and information to inform their views.
