Write Effective Cover & Job Search Letters

A cover letter should always be included with a résumé. It tells a potential employer what position you are applying for, and how and where you heard about it. It enables you to state why you think you are the best candidate for the position – to provide additional details that may not be obvious from your résumé alone.

Besides cover letters, you should always follow up an interview or correspondence with a potential employer with a thank you letter, card, or email. In fact, many employers say they are less likely to consider candidates who are not thoughtful enough to send a thank you note.
