Geoducks Head Into Final Weeks of Regular Season Play

October 14, 2009

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Evergreen is coming off of two conference losses as they enter a weekend of away games. Last weekend the Geoducks lost a couple of close matches, first a 1-0 loss to Southern Oregon on Friday, then another 1-0 shutout by Oregon Tech. ESC remains winless in Cascade Conference competition with just three regular season games on the schedule.

In the Friday game with SOU the team suffered a blow when Freshman Amanda Garrison, an All-League player at Yelm HS, went down with a major fracture of the lower leg. Garrison was admitted to surgery that evening and her recovery will be long but the outcome positive.

The Geoducks have often been ahead or even in the shooting game this season with their opponents but shots have rarely seen net, giving ESC just six goals for the team this season. A total that is well below the combined 17 of their opponents this season.

Goal leader for the Geoducks is Freshman Emma Loftis (Eatonville HS) with 2 goals.

Evergreen's bright spot has been their defense that combines the experience of veteran players Marissa Major (Sehome HS), keeper Sonya Daisley-Harrison (Tahoma HS), Courtney Bohrer (Stadium HS) and Nina Hinton (La Conner HS).

That being said, the front line is young and talented and may only be lacking confidence in college soccer games. Coaches John Purtteman and Kate Green have a good team to work with in future seasons.

ESC (1-7-4, 0-6 CCC) travels to Eugene, OR for a 2:00 PM match with Northwest Christian University (2-11, 1-4 CCC). The following day the team will play Corban College (7-5-2, 4-1-0 CCC) in Salem, OR at 2:30.
