Geoducks Outplayed in Today's 4-2 Loss
August 18, 2008
Olympia, WA - Although they tied game just before the first half, Evergreen rarely took the offensive in today's game. A foul resulting in a penalty kick 3 minutes into the second half helped Northwest Univ. regain their momentum and win by 2.
Northwest, a team looking much better than their '07 squad, simply out ran Evergreen today. In contrast to the Eagles, the Geoducks seemed unbalanced and relying heavily on a few key players to make the plays. NU's high pressure play was characterized by the ability of many players to break through Evergreen's defense.
Six NU players shot at the net 2 or more times while ESC only managed 2 or more shots at the goal by two players. The Eagles outshot the Geoducks 19-9.
First on the scoreboard was Northwest when Rachel Harris (Auburn, WA) followed a pass from teammate Britannique Clayberg (Snohomish, WA) to beat Evergreen keeper Sonya Daisley-Harrison (So, Maple Valley, WA). Eleven minutes later the same duo reversed their roles to bring the score to 2-0.
Kate Green (Sr. Covington, WA) brought her early season goal total to three in two games. Her first was a skilled solo drive around NU defenders to score from just outside the penalty box. Green's game tying goal was helped by Madeleine Turner's (Sr. Eastsound, WA) pass assist. The shot was an impressive kick from the far right of the goal box.
Not long after the mid-game break Northwest capitalized on an Evergreen foul that led to a penalty kick. NU's Brittney Marshall (Monroe, WA) put a low shot just out of Harrison's reach.
The Geoducks could not get their drive back the last 20 minutes of the game and were under constant pressure by their opponent. Kirstie Perron (Snohomish, WA) sealed the game as her foot found the loose ball 30 feet out from ESC's net.
Evergreen will play Pacific Lutheran University Thursday at 12:00 PM in an exhibition game.
