OLYMPIA, WA – Concordia University (Portland) remains undefeated in Cascade Conference play following their 3-0 win over the Geoducks this afternoon. Less than two minutes into the match Concordia's Shea Miller snuck a shot past Evergreen defenders after consecutive passes from teammates Caitlin Verhofstadt and Samantha Smith. Both Verhofstadt and Smith were credited with assists. Evergreen had just one shot taken in the first period to Concordia's nine and only added 2 more the entire game as they were forced to play defensive by the number seven ranked team in the NAIA. Concordia finished the game with 12 shots on goal. The second goal for Concordia happened in the twenty-second minute when Jessica Ramback tapped in a sideways kick for an unassisted point for the Cavaliers. The Geoducks stepped up their defense the remainder of the first half and throughout the majority of the second period. Evergreen keeper Katie Cagle deserves much credit for holding the defense together. Her nine saves are not reflective of the amount of times she snuffed out scoring opportunities for Concordia. Cagle frequently charged bravely to the far ends of the penalty box and beyond to clear the ball. With eight minutes remaining CU had their final goal following a corner kick. Justine Pronovost found an opening in the Geoduck defense following a set up by Shea Miller. Evergreen stands at 2-4-1 for the season. Tomorrow Cascade College visits for a 1 PM conference game. |
