September 14, 2007 LA GRANDE, Oregon – Playing in their Cascade Conference opener Friday afternoon, The Evergreen State College outlasted Eastern Oregon University in the second half to defeat the Mounties 3-1. The first half left Eastern and Evergreen deadlocked at a goal a piece. Senior Maeve Dempsey scored unassisted for the Geoducks in our one first half goal while EOU's Tennly Paul-Bowden scored the only Mountie goal of the day. Evergreen keeper Katie Cagle had 4 saves during the game. An Eastern foul in the late minutes set Evergreen up for a penalty kick. Jamie Scholtens, a second year at Evergreen, tallied her first collegiate goal as she snuck her shot past the Mounties keeper. Scholtens goal sealed the game and Evergreen improves their overall record to 2-3-0. Tomorrow the team heads into Caldwell, ID to do battle with the Yotes of Albertson College. |
