August 10, 2005 Olympia, Wash. -- The Evergreen State College women's soccer team will bolster its fall squad with six new players, head coach Erik Gibson-Snyder announced today. The Geoducks landed three players who have played with the Washington State ODP team, one NWAACC All-Star and a transfer from NCAA Division II powerhouse Seattle University. All of the incoming players are from the state of Washington. "We worked really hard to recruit within Washington. There are so many talented players in the state; we didn't see a need to go anywhere else. At $4000 a year, Evergreen is a great bargain for Washington players. It just makes sense to give the local kids the first shot at playing here." This is the first recruiting class for Gibson-Snyder who took over the Geoduck soccer program a short three weeks before the season started last year, effectively leaving the team without a recruited class. "Last year we were very fortunate to have some excellent players walk on to the program. And we were able to land Alisha at the last minute. It is nice to discover that getting players like Alisha wasn't a one-time fluke, but something we can expect every year." White ended the season as the team's leading scorer, was recognized as the Cascade Collegiate Conference Newcomer of the Year, and was named Honorable Mention All-American. She led the Geoducks to their best conference record in the program's history going 8-2-1 against Cascade opponents. Evergreen also managed a 2-1 loss to #6 ranked Simon Fraser and a tie with national finalist Concordia University. "It has been an exciting process recruiting players to Evergreen this year. My goal was to bring in high quality people and students who could help us become one of the best soccer programs in the region. I am incredibly pleased with the young women we have joining the team this fall. We have taken a giant step toward competing with the best teams in the country." The Players: Jenine Adam-FC Kitsap "Jenine is a very skillful and smart midfielder who will make a huge and immediate impact on the quality of our team. Her experience with the State Team is great preparation for the jump to college soccer. She spent the spring and summer in Spain so I think she kind of fell off people's radar. Jenine is also the sort of student we want in our program. She's very intelligent and seems to have a passion for learning and exploring."
