August 30, 2005 ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- Geoduck forward Alice Fox-Dietz scored her second goal in two games to lead Evergreen past NCAA Division II foe Central Washington University 3-1 on Tuesday. Playing with a strong headwind at their backs, the Geoducks (2-0-0) jumped out to a 2-0 first-half lead scoring at the 24th and 40th minutes. Dietz assisted on Elizabeth Lieberknecht's goal, as Dietz's initial shot was stopped by a Wildcat defender. Lieberknecht then put the rebound into the vacated net for an early lead. Then, Dietz tallied the game's second goal after taking a pass from Jenine Adam and beating CWU keeper Meghan Michaud for a 2-0 advantage. Hilary Davidson's goal at the 72:24 mark came just 37 seconds after Evergreen had gone ahead 3-0. She headed a centering pass from teammate Arica Slawson past Evergreen keeper Carly Stewart to break the shutout. The host Wildcats, after being outshot 10-5 in the first half, finished the match with a 19-14 advantage overall as they outshot the Geoducks 8-1 over the final 22 minutes trying to get back into the contest. Stewart made seven saves for Evergreen, while Michaud countered with five stops for the Wildcats. In a very physical match, Central Washington was whistled for 25 fouls and two yellow cards. Evergreen committed 14 fouls in the contest. Evergreen moves to 2-0-0 on the year and returns to action Thursday at Pacific Lutheran University at 4:00 p.m.. |
