OLYMPIA, WA -- The Concordia University Women's Soccer team, undefeated in Cascade Conference action and ranked #3 in the NAIA National poll, stepped onto The Evergreen State College Women's soccer field and learned that season records can be deceiving.

The Evergreen (0-3-2 CCC, 1-7-2 Overall) defensive unit of 1st Team All-Conference Amanda Grayum (Olympia, Wash./River Ridge H.S.), junior Leah Humphries (Anchorage, Alaska/Chugiak H.S.), freshman Jamie Doran (Snohomish, Wash./Snohomish H.S.) and goalkeeper Carly Stewart (Federal Way, H.S./Kennedy H.S.) did the unimaginable and shutdown Concordia's (4-0-1 CCC, 8-1-2 Overall) offense, who has scored twenty-six goals this season while giving up only two.

After 110:00 minutes of action, two overtime periods, both teams headed for their respective locker rooms having played to a 0-0 tie.

The Cavaliers pressure on the Geoducks defense was relentless. Through the first and second halves, as well as the first overtime, Stewart turned away five Concordia shot-on-goal each period. In the end she finished with sixteen saves, three short of the record set by Nora Maloney in 2000.

"To put Stewart's effort into proper perspective," said Evergreen Play-by-Play Broadcaster Kevin Mac, "her sixteen saves came in a double overtime shutout of a nationally ranked opponent. Maloney's nineteen saves came in a 7-0 Geoduck loss at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada."

While Stewart was denying every Concordia's shots-on-goal, freshman Jamie Doran was shutting down the #3 scorer in the Cascade Conference, freshman Malloree Enoch. For all 110 minutes Doran and Enoch went head-to-head, with Enoch getting off five total shots, with only two being on-goal (40%). On average, 75% of Enoch's shots are on-goal.

"Today's games came only be created to an outstanding team effort," said Evergreen head coach Arlene McMahon. "But, Jamie played today like a veteran college defender, not as a freshman."

Having enjoyed their one game home stand, Evergreen takes to the road once again for three away games in seven day. This Saturday (Oct. 4), the Geoducks travel to Bellingham, Wash., to play NCAA Div. II Western Washington. A week from Friday (Oct 10), Southern Oregon will host Evergreen, with the Geoducks playing their final road game at Oregon Tech the next day, Saturday, in Klamath Fall, Ore., against Oregon Tech.
