Geoduck Women Convincingly Win Third Game in a Row |

Portune OLYMPIA, WA -- The Evergreen State Women's Soccer team proved that there back-to-back identical 5-1 road victories last weekend were no fluke by extending their winning streak to three games with a 6-1 victory over visiting Eastern Oregon University. Although sophomore NAIA All-American Tiffany Fenster (Seattle, Wa/Roosevelt H.S.) scored four of Evergreen's "The team is making it easy for me," said Fenster, "they are making good passes that are easy for me to redirect into the back of the net." An assist from junior AJ Fairburn (Tacoma, Wa/Stadium H.S.) allowed Fenster to score her first goal in the 15th minutes. On sophomore midfielder Heather Gordon (Walnut Creek, Ca/Anacortes H.S.) assist, Fenster headed the ball into the right corner of the goal to give the Geoducks a 2-0 lead in the 18th minute. In the 44th minute of play, Fenster laid a beautiful crossing pass directly in front of the goal that Fairburn ran up on a nailed into the back of the net. Before the first half ended, Fenster completed the hat trick, unassisted, with a chip shot over Eastern Oregon's goalkeeper. Evergreen goalie Sara Hart (Federal Way, Wa/Jefferson H.S.) saw little action in her forty-five minutes of action, having to reel in one of only two Mountaineer shots. Freshman goalkeeper Janine Derpack (Bothell, Wa/Academy NW H.S.) replaced Hart in the Geoduck goal to start the second half and surrendered the only goal against Evergreen by catching a Chelsea Topping, Eastern Oregon's (1-7 CCC, 1-11 Overall) starting forwards, looping shot behind her goal line. "Last weekend was good for us," said assistant Evergreen coach Luise Frank, "the team really gelled." Fenster scored her fourth and final goal in the 73rd minute. Senior Jennifer Fahrney (Las Vegas, Nv/Chaparral H.S.) scored the final Evergreen goal in the 75th minute of play to put the Geoducks ahead 6-1. Saturday afternoon's game will be the Geoducks second in a final five game home stand. With a 7-0 loss this afternoon in Portland (Ore.) against Concordia, Albertson fall to 5-3 record and puts the Coyotes in a tie with Evergreen for third place in the Cascade Conference. Saturday's game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. "No game is easy," explained coach Frank. "Every aspect of our game has to be sharp, especially on Saturday." |
