Second day of the Arno Zoske Tournament

August 31, 2002

Olympia, WA - Eleven minutes of play was all that Simon Frasier (2-0) needed to score enough goals, two that is, to beat Whitworth College (0-0, 0-2) in the second day of the inaugural Arno Zoske Soccer Tournament at Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA. But the Clan would add three more insurance goals, one more in the 1st half and two in the 2nd half, to win 5-1, their first victory of the tournament, and send the Pirates home 0-2 on the weekend.

The scoring wealth was shared amongst five players, sophomores Naomi Eguchi and Anna Hilborn, as well as senior Jillian Stewart and junior Lani MacGregor in the first half. Sophomore Amy Dhatt received her praise in the second half at the 87 minute mark. In the contest the Pirates took 19 shots to Whitworth's 5.

"I was pleased with today performance," remarked Simon Frasier head coach Shelley Howieson. "Whitworth is a much stronger opponent than our first game and we put together couple of good combination and finished."

After getting down quickly in the first half the Pirates came out in the 2nd half and played even with Simon Frasier the remaining time. A goal by the Clan late in the game was the only major mistake Whitworth appeared to make.

"We made some mental mistakes," said Whitworth head coach Sean Bushey, "and you expect those kind of things from a young team. Simon Frasier is a high quality team and learned positive things at this tournament we can build upon."

Simon Frasier second and final game of the tournament will begin at 1 p.m. against Evergreen State, who lost their opener 4-3 in overtime. The game will be played on Field 4 at Evergreen State College.
