October 27, 2001

Olympia, WA - Evergreen State clinched the final spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament on Saturday by tying Southern Oregon University. The Geoducks need a win or a tie to earn the spot, and after 120 minutes of play, the result was a tie.

A win would have been preferred by the Geoducks, but the tie against the third best team in the conference and the playoff spot, make Geoduck coach Arlene McMahon proud of the team. "We had a total team effort all year long, that is what got us here. And then today was a great effort to hold onto the shutout and get us the playoff spot," said McMahon.

Evergreen finished up the regular season with a record of 7-9-3 overall and a conference record of 6-6-2, and will face the number one seed in the post season tournament, that team has yet to be decided, but the Geoducks should know later on this weekend.

The Geoducks again controlled the tempo of the game, and had numerous good looks at the goal, but a wet ball and field along with very cold temperatures did not help the Evergreen attack. The Geoducks out-shot the Raiders (8-9-2, 8-4-2) 31 to 8, but could not manage to get one in the back of the net.

Evergreen goalie, Nora Moloney (Bainbridge Is., Wash. / Western Oregon) face 8 shots and made 5 saves in the game recording her third straight shut out.

The Geoducks will await the final standings in the conference to find out who and where their next game will be. Evergreen will be on the road, no matter who the opponent. The game will be on Friday at the number one seed.
