Evergreen 2, Oregon Tech 0
October 26, 2001
Olympia, WA- Evergreen knew they had to pick up the win against Oregon Tech if they wanted to move on to post-season play, and they came out and played like it. Evergreen dominated the first half of play, controlling the ball in the Owls half of the field for most of the period.
The Geoducks (7-9-2, 6-6-1) controlled the tempo of the game using their quickness and accuracy in passing. Evergreen scored in the 25th minute of the game when Lori Wieser (Elma, WA/Pacific Lutheran) got a short pass from Tiffany Fenster (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt HS) and put the ball right past the goalie. That goal gave them the lead at half time, but the Geoducks knew that it might not be enough. Evergreen kept up the offensive attack for the rest of the game, trying to extend their lead. Evergreen fired off 24 shots in the game.
Fenster would later add a goal of her own in the 65th minute. The goal came off of an indirect kick from about 35 yards out. The ball was heading right for the goal when the Owl's goalie got a hand on it, but the ball just kept rolling towards the back of the net. That goal, and the Geoduck defense might have ruined any hope for post-season play for the Owls, and given Evergreen a good shot of getting the berth.
Evergreen goalie, Nora Moloney (Bainbridge Island, WA/Western Oregon) faced only nine shots on the day, and had four saves in the game.
The Geoducks will take the home field for the final time this season on Saturday, when the take on Southern Oregon University. Game time will be at 1:00 p.m.
