Inside-out shooting % continues to hurt E-State women in 59-46 loss to MSUN
OLYMPIA, Wash. -- For the second night in a row, inside shooting set The Evergreen State College women's basketball team back as it lost to Montana State University Northern, 59-46, on the second day of the Evergreen Women's Basketball Classic Saturday.
In the tournament's other game, the Frontier Conference completed a sweep of the Cascade Conference as Westminster College downed Northwest University, 74-55.
The Geoducks (2-5) shot just 31.5% from the field overall, but had a 32% mark from beyond the arc, almost the same numbers that plagued them in a loss to Westminster on Friday night in which they also missed numerous layups and putbacks. Evergreen started Saturday night's game with a 23.1% first half and, although the Geoducks picked it up a bit after intermission, still couldn't lay claim to a strong shooting night.
MSUN (3-5) improved in the second half when Samm Schermele got hot, hitting 4-of-6 three pointers on her way to a game-high 21 points. Zivile Gaizutyte follwed with 12 points and five rebounds. Evergreen was led by Brittany Weaver with 14 points while Katie Garcin had 11. The Geoducks Latrina Woods led the game in rebounds with six and scored seven points.
Evergreen's next action will come on Friday, December 4 when it opens the Cascade Collegiate Conference season at home against Eastern Oregon University at 5:30 p.m. Evergreen's men also open at home against the Mountaineers than night, with tipoff at 7:30 p.m.
