Warner Pacific downs Evergreen women, 63-51
OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Kelsey Mattsen scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Warner Pacific College broke open what had been a tie game at the half to defeat The Evergreen State College women's basketball team, 63-51, on Friday night at the Greenhouse.
The game was a study in contrasts as, in the first half, Evergreen (9-17, 5-10 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference) shot a robust 45% from the field to stay even with the Knights (15-9, 10-5 in the CCC). However, after intermission, the Geoducks slumped to just 27% from the field while Warner improved from 29% in the first half to 46% in the second.
In addition to Mattsen's strong game, Marissa Towry tallied 17 points for Warner while Kristina Schumacher also reached double figures with 11 and added a game-high four steals. Cameryn Calhoun, who led the Knights last time these two teams met, was scoreless but led the game with five assists. As so often happens, Latrina Woods led Evergreen in scoring, this time with 14 points. She also paced the Geoducks with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Evergreen meets Concordia University, which entered Friday night tied with the Geoducks for the final CCC playoff berth, on Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. with Katie Garcin, LeAsia Jones and Ali Matisons to be honored on Senior Night.
