Evergreen State Downs Lady Owls
KLAMATH FALLS,Ore. - The Oregon Tech Lady Owls were held to just 35.5% shooting and only connected on four baskets from long range, as The Evergreen State College pulled an upset victory over the host team 65-56 tonight at Danny Miles Court.
The Owls are now 14-12 on the season and 7-7 in conference play. TESC improves to 9-15 overall and 5-8 in the CCC.
After a back-and-forth first nine minutes, Oregon Tech broke away with a 16-11 lead on a Jazzy McDaniel jumper.
Evergreen's Chelsey Nill connected for a 3-point basket with 8:22 to play in the first period that gave the Geoducks a slim 19-18 advantage. Evergreen would lead by as many as seven points, 29-22, with just 3:16 on the clock.
Oregon Tech would storm back, as a 7-0 run to finish out the first half tied the contest at 29-29 at the intermission.
The teams would again see-saw to begin the second period, but after the third tie of the period, 43-43, it was all Evergreen.
Nill would again hit a trey, one of her five on the night, that put the Geoducks up for good with 6:41 remaining.
The Owls would stay within two points, but Evergreen was able to push the lead to seven, 57-50, at the two minute mark. Tech then cut the deficit to 59-56, but an ensuing 3-pointer and free throw would be too much to overcome in the final 50 seconds, as the Owls would fall by the nine point margin, 65-56.
Brittany Cherry and Aundrea Albright finished with 10 points each and combined for 10 rebounds. Lisa Busch and Morgan Hofman finished with eight points apiece and Nicole Morgan with seven points and six rebounds. Kelsey New and Kellie Morey-Lewis tied with a game-high seven rebounds in the loss.
Evergreen's balanced attack saw five players finish in double figures, led by a game-high 19 from Nill. Cambria Smith and Latrina Woods netted 11 points each and Katie Garcin and Brittany Weaver finished with 10 points in the win.
