Team Holds on for 68-66 Overtime Win
January 23, 2009
Klamath Falls, OR - The Geoducks claimed a 68-66 overtime victory over the Lady Owls tonight in Klamath Falls.
The game went into OT with a 55-55 score when OIT's Amanda Johnston went to the free throw line for 3 shots. ESC's Alex Saab fouled on Johnston's layup and then there was a lane violation call on ESC after Johnston's second free throw. With a lead of just one point, Evergreen's luck was good as Johnston made 1 of 3 to tie the game and enter extra minutes.
The Geoducks had as much as a 7 point lead with 18 seconds left in the overtime period and saw OIT chisel that down to just 2 as they squeaked out their 4th conference win to bring their CCC record to 4-7 and their overall record to 9-9.
The nine wins so far this season ties the most amount of season wins since 2004-05. ESC has nine regular season games remaining.
Despite nearly scaring the shorts off her team, Saab had a great game and tied Evergreen's Kristi Auckland for the team scoring high with 15 points. Auckland added 6 rebounds.
Johnston was the game leader in points, scoring 18 for OIT.
Evergreen will have a chance to avenge Monday's loss to Southern Oregon U tomorrow night in Ashland, Oregon, a game that was a make-up from a postponed December game.
