OLYMPIA, WA - Cruising along to a double digit halftime lead, the Evergreen State College women's basketball team went ice cold in the second half and dropped a 61-55 decision to visiting Cascade College on Friday night  that eliminated the Geoducks from potentially grabbing the final spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference playoffs.

The Geoducks (3-14 in the CCC, 5-23 overall) grabbed a 34-24 lead at intermission when guard Molly Clark stole an in-bounds pass and quickly banked in a layup.  That concluded a half in which Evergreen outshot Cascade (3-14, 4-22) 47 percent to 35 and things looked to be going the Geoducks way.

But in the second half, the Thunderbirds heated up to a 56 percent shooting pace while Evergreen sagged to 19 percent from the field, including misses on all 12 of its three-point attempts.  Cascade grabbed a 44-43 lead midway through the second period and never trailed again.

Cascade guard Lindsey Ortiz led the game with 23 points while team mate Te Awhina Aranui tallied 17 and Cari Wooley 10.  Ortiz and Aranui each had eight rebounds to lead the T-Birds in that category.  Aranui also led the game with six assists.  Evergreen junior forward Jenn Solberg paced her team with 19 points and 17 rebounds, which tied her season high.  Danielle Keenan was the only other Geoduck in double figures with 11.

Evergreen plays at home again Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. against Warner Pacific College, and will honor its lone senior -- all-time leading scorer and rebounder Jenny Olson -- prior to the game.  Olson enters Saturday's game with career totals of 1,194 points  and 778 rebounds, both by far the most for Evergreen's 10-year old basketball program.
