OLYMPIA, Wash. - Evergreen put up a good battle tonight at home in their 60-68 loss to Eastern Oregon University, the second best team in the conference. After finding themselves down by 13 points in the early game minutes, they rallied back to lead by as much as 5 points with eight minutes left in the game. The Geoducks stepped up their defense mid-game to force EOU turnovers and capitalized on their defensive rebounds. Evergreen's Jenny Olson recorded four steals and one block to help the team get back into the action. Eastern answered by taking advantage of late game Evergreen turnovers and fouls and converted 15 attempts from the free throw line to 9 points in the second half. Jennifer Solberg and Danielle Keenan put 18 and 16 points on the board for Evergreen. Olson added 11 to round out the top three scorers for the Evergreen squad. The standout duo of EOU's Christie Weaver and Tiffanie Ulmer were the big factor in their teams win posting 52 points between them. Weaver and Ulmer, who have both earned Cascade Conference Player of the Week honors the last 2 weeks, tallied 20 and 32 points respectively for the Mountaineers. Tonight Evergreen hosts Albertson College of Idaho at 5:30 PM. Albertson is currently ranked 27th in the latest NAIA Division II ratings and leading the Cascade Conference with an 11-1 record and stand at 15-6 overall. |
