One point loss tonight for Evergreen
January 5, 2007
Olympia, WA - Two late game turnovers resulted in disappointment for the women's basketball team in their 62-63 loss to Corban College tonight. Still, the Geoducks can feel good about how well they played against the 4 th best team in the Cascade Conference and they can look forward to a chance to end their 9 game in a row losing streak tomorrow night if they play this well. Evergreen hosts Concordia University tomorrow night. Concordia sits in 8 th place in the conference standings.
Evergreen found themselves down by 9 points just 2:30 into the first half, but unlike games past where Evergreen has not been able to make a run at closing the score, they found themselves tied seven minutes later.
The game remained close throughout, with the teams rarely pulling ahead by more than 2 baskets. A strong defensive game 5 minutes into the second half put the Geoducks ahead by as much as 8 points. The efforts of Ashley Miller and Joy White were key to getting Evergreen back in the game. Not long after, the team had a couple of missed shots and back to back turnovers that allowed the Warriors to move back in striking range.
Jenny Olson had a strong game tonight, earning a season high point total of 19. Teammate Jennifer Solberg had 14 rebounds and 14 points for the night while Danielle Keenan was strong under the boards with 8 total rebounds.
For Corban, Brianne Carras found herself in shooting position often and secured 18 points tonight and 8 rebounds. Jessica Steigleman played a well rounded game with her contribution of 16 rebounds and 12 points. Corban improves their record to 12-5.
Evergreen is now 2-13 this season. Tomorrows game begins at 5:30 PM.
