Geoducks fall to Albertson 63-44

December 29, 2005

Olympia, WA - Fourteen turnovers and abysmal first-half shooting combined to dig a hole the Evergreen women's basketball team could not climb out of as the Geoducks dropped their second conference game in a row with a 44-63 loss to the visiting Albertson College Coyotes.

Albertson took advantage of the off night by the Goeducks to take a 29-18 first half lead and never let Evergreen back into the game. Albertson's zone defense accounted for 12 steals and held the Geoducks to 24 percent shooting on the night.

Jenny Olson recorded another double-double for the Clams scoring a team-high 14 points and grabbing 10 boards. Center Rachel Ross nearly duplicated the feat as she pulled down 12 rebounds and scored nine points.

Yotes guard Whitney Clark netted 16 to lead all scorers helping Albertson improve to 7-6 on the year and 1-1 in conference play.

Evergreen out-rebounded the Coyotes 52-37 but couldn't convert those boards to points as the Geoducks shot just 13 percent from behind the arc in the second half on 2-12 shooting. Evergreen fared little better from the free throw line making 12 0f 23 shots for just over 50 percent shooting. Meanwhile Albertson took 39 tries from the charity stripe and converted 27.

The loss drops Evergreen to 5-9 on the season and 3-2 in conference play. Evergreen will host Eastern Oregon University Friday night at 5:30 p.m.. The Mountaineers are currently 2-0 in conference play, second behind Evergreen.
