Geoducks Topple Southern Oregon University

Ashland, OR - The Evergreen State College women's basketball team stayed perfect in conference play with a 53-52 win at Southern Oregon University Tuesday night. The Geoducks survived 30 turnovers and a 34 percent shooting night to down the Raiders and move into the top spot in the conference at 3-0.

After leading 49-35 with six minutes remaining, a steal and breakaway layup by Raider forward Kasi Backer brought Southern Oregon (8-6, 1-2 CC) to a 52-52 tie with 41 seconds remaining. But a pair of free throws by junior center Rachel Ross with 29 ticks left turned out to be the game-winning points for the Geoducks (5-7, 3-0).

Evergreen missed six consecutive double-bonus free throws in the final 19 seconds, but the Geoducks came up with two crucial offensive rebounds and subsequently whittled away precious seconds.

Junior Jen ny Olson recorded her third double-double in four games as the forward scored 16 and amassed 10 rebounds. Ross finished with 13 points for Evergreen, who won for the third straight year in Ashland .

Evergreen shot 34 percent (19-for-56) but erased an 18-15 first-half
deficit by holding the Raiders scoreless for five minutes en route to a
29-24 halftime lead.

The Geoducks return to action tomorrow night as they wrap up a two-game road swing at Oregon Tech. The Owls are currently 1-2 in conference play but 8-4 overall.
