Evergreen powers over Cascade in conference opener

Olympia, WA - The Evergreen State College Geoducks came out strong in a 70-50 win in their first conference game of the season versus the Cascade Thunderbirds.

The Geoducks started the game on a 12-0 run, giving them a nice cushion to work with the duration of the game. Their defense was on point causing twelve turnovers in the just the first half and snatching ten steals.

At half time Evergreen lead 32-20, senior, Dalia Gomez, with the team high 13 points and senior, Rachel Ross, tied with junior, Jenny Olson, with the team high for rebounds at 7. Olson also went 8-8 from the line. The Hawks were lead at the half by freshman, Jamie Martinez with 9 points and 4 rebounds.

Coming out the second half, the Geoducks didn't skip a beat. They triggered twelve more turnovers making a game total of twenty-four for the Thunderbirds total compared to Evergreen's thirteen, the Geoducks were able to rob eight more possessions for 18 steals in all.

Olson showed her talents well tonight and once again recorded a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Ross right there with her put another one in the books with 11 points and 10 rebounds. With commendable shooting from Gomez as well, ending the game with 16 points.

Both teams shooting percentages were similar in the end, but Evergreen State was able outshoot Cascade from field goal range making twenty-five of sixty-two to Cascade's twelve makes and forty-three attempts.

The Evergreen State College takes on Warner Pacific tomorrow Saturday, December 3 at 5:30 p.m. in Olympia for their second conference game of the season.
