Evergreen's post season ends in Eastern Oregon

La Grande, OR - The Evergreen State College women (8-19 overall, 6-12 CCC) found their post season play cut short with a 68-53 defeat to the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers (22-8 overall, 14-4 CCC).

The Geoducks started off behind a wall allowing for a 14-2 run from Eastern Oregon . The Mountaineers came out with a full court press which seemed to put Evergreen in a panic. Evergreen gave up 12 steals and threw away 14 possessions allowing for numerous Eastern attempts on the offensive side. Slowly the Geoducks were able to pull back and got the score within three. The ladies hit the break with Eastern Oregon leading 33-26.

The latter half of the competition looked similar to the first, with Eastern coming out with a 13-4 run. The Geoducks were forced to play catch up for the remainder of the game, but having trouble doing so. With respectively 1:30 to play the Mountaineers had their highest lead of 21 points. The Geoducks may have had trouble, but they never gave up, fighting to the end getting buckets until the end, with Jenny Olson making a three point game ending buzzer shot.

Evergreen senior, Rachel Ross, ended her collegiate career leading the Geoducks with 19 points and four rebounds, while senior Dalia Gomez also put up 13 points. Eastern's Christie Weaver led the game with 22 points, Sheena Henderson added 16 and Adria Layne put in 14 as well.

Evergreen fans look forward to seeing the lady Geoducks back in action in the 2006-07 season and for another definite berth to post season play.
