Clam Women Muddy Raider Waters

December 31, 2004

The Evergreen State College women's basketball team claimed their first Cascade Conference win of the season by downing Southern Oregon University 73-59 at McNeal Pavilion tonight.
The Geoducks (6-8, 1-3 CC) stormed to a comfy 37-23 halftime lead and held off a Raider rally midway through the second half.

Senior guard Heather Hyde sparked TESC's second victory in Ashland in as many years by canning seven of 12 shots for 16 points, while sophomore forward Jenny Olson compiled 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Raiders fell to 2-13 overall and 1-3 in league play despite a game-high 19-point, eight-rebound effort by junior guard Courtney Bothum.

TESC stormed out of the gates and never trailed. The Clams shot a sizzling 55 percent in the opening 20 minutes while limiting Southern to a miserable 8-for-28, 29-percent clip.
SOU pulled within nine (59-50) following a pair of free throws by Andi Peterson, but Evergreen put the game away with a 12-2 run highlighted by a 3-pointer from Kamrica Ary-Turner.
Evergreen finished with a 39-32 rebounding edge.
