Women's Basketball Picked Seventh

November 2, 2004

Olympia, WA - Coming off the best season in program history, The Evergreen State College women's basketball team has been picked to finish in seventh place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference by the conference coaches. Last season the Geoducks finished 8-10 in conference and 11-22 overall for a sixth place conference finish.

Warner Pacific, who finished in a three way tie for second place last season with a 13-5 conference record, was tabbed for the top spot this season followed by Oregon Tech. Eastern Oregon, last year's top dog is picked to finish third.

Head coach Monica Heuer, who will enter her fourth season with the Geoducks, will need to find a replacement for graduate Kristen Zompetti who ranked third in the conference in scoring last season. Heuer will rely on the talent and experience of key returners Heather Hyde, Stephanie MacDuff and Jenny Olson to lead a group of talented newcomers.

Evergreen opens its season at home on November 5th as the Geoducks host cross-town rival Saint Martins at 5:30 p.m..
