Evergreen Holds Off Concordia Rally

Portland, OR - For the second straight time this year, the Concordia women's basketball team has come up short against Evergreen.

Back on January 8th, Evergreen hit a shot at the buzzer to beat the Cavaliers 61-59, and tonight, the Cavaliers made a furious comeback, only to see the Geoducks hold on for the 72-66 victory. ,

With a chance to cut Evergreen's lead to two late in the game, Concordia's opportunity vanished as Dalia Gomez stole the ball from Cavalier guard Jenny Walker as she drove to the basket. Gomez nailed both free throws after being fouled to seal the 72-66 win for the Geoducks.

The Geoducks opened a 39-22 lead at halftime and extended that lead to 11 points in the second period despite Concordia winning the rebound battle with a 43-30 advantage on the boards.

Evergreen was led by Kamrica Ary-Turner's 19 points while Jenny Olson added 18 points and Leslie Jacobson had ten for the Geoducks.

Four Cavaliers were in double figures in scoring, led by Katie Atkins with 17 points, Leigh-Anne Durham added 12 points while Denise Benedict and Darcy Madison scored 10 points each.

Evergreen improves to 13-11 overall and 8-6 in conference action while Concordia drops to 12-12 overall and 5-8 in conference play.
