Geoducks Earn 3-1 Victory Over Visiting Beacons

The Evergreen State volleyball team generated their best output this season, earning a four-set victory over visiting Northwest Christian University. After falling in the first set 16-25, the Geoducks took over the match, outhitting the Beacons the remainder of the contest. Set number two saw the Beacons close the gap on a lead the Geoducks had built late in the game. Tied at 23 all, a Jasmine Horton (Junior/Seattle, WA) kill and an error by the Beacons allowed the Geoducks to tie the match at one-set apiece. In set three, the Geoducks outhit the Beacons .257-.026, earning the 25-20 victory. From that point on, it was all Evergreen State as the Geoducks earned a convincing fourth-set win with a 25-16 tally. Caitlin Swift (Senior/Seattle, WA) pounded match point off the Beacon block, giving her 12 kills on the night. The Geoducks had good balance on offense, led by the 36 assists from Erin Mitchell (Freshman/Santa Cruz, CA), to go along with her four service aces. Swift led the Geoducks attack output, while Stephanie Peshlakai-John (Junior/Kirtland, NM) and Jazzmin Garcia (Sophomore/Kirkland, WA) put down nine and eight kills respectively. Defensively, the Geoducks edged the Beacons in digs (79-75) and blocks (8.0-5.0). Leading the way on the defensive side was Chantal Petkus (Junior/Richland, WA) with 38 digs, along with Swift (13) and Mitchell (10) giving them both a double-double for the contest. Janel Fetters led the Beacons with 14 kills. With the win, the Geoducks improve to 3-8 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play, and sit at 4-11 overall. Coming up for Evergreen State is a visit to Northwest University next Friday. The first serve is scheduled for 7pm.
