Geoducks Play Second Game of Season Tonight at Home

August 26, 2009

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Volleyball lost their season opener 3-1 at home in a tight match with Walla Walla University Monday night.  Tonight they will face Hope University in the Green House. Hope, another NAIA team from California, beat WWU 3-0 last night in the ESC gymnasium.

Monday's game showed a much improved team from last year, with veterans like LeAsia Jones and Chantal Petkus stepping up and contributing well.

Newcomers Jazzmin Garcia, Kaylani Evans and Meghan De La Rosa stood out with their solid play for the Geoducks.

Garcia and Jones led the team in kills with 10 and 9 each respectively. Evans added 6. De La Rosa tallied 26 set assists and 3 kills. Petkus had 11 defensive digs playing Libero.

For the Wolves, Natalle Wilkening scored an impressive 15 kills. Setter Torrey Haddad had 31 assist.

In tonight's match with Hope University, look for the one-two punch of Kassen Boesel and Emily Lyon to keep the Geoducks on their toes.

ESC's early season record is 0-1. Hope stands at 1-2.
